traffic, fireflies

I arrived home last week to my first official evening of summer vacation with the relics of another year of school in toe; well-wishings from families with whom I've become close, bean plants grown by the children of the after-school science program, and perhaps the most beautiful flowers I have ever received.  I followed Chad into the back and watched as he made room for the new plants and tended our "crop".  The garden is really in full swing now, and we can’t believe the rate at which things are growing.

Later, while walking in the neighborhood, a lightning bug, flashing neon green, crossed my path on the sidewalk, and completed the palpable sensation that summer has arrived.
